Child Has Fever, Discharge From Eye. No Ear Infection, Strep And Flu. How Can This Be Treated?

My daughter is eight years old. She has been running a fever of over 100 for four days now. I took her to dr on Monday and she ruled out ear infection , strep , and flu . Today she has what looks like a broken blood vessel in her right eye and lots of discharge from both eyes? Any ideas on how i can treat this? Do you think i need to take her back in? Any input would be so appreciated! Chelsie

Hi

Red eyes with discharge, suggests conjunctivitis.
It may be due to bacteria or virus associated with common cold.

If sticky and purulant discharge is seen, it suggests Bacterial cause. It can be treated with antibacterial eye drops like Gentamicin thrice a day for a week.

If watery discharge, it might be viral. To give her some comfort you may use some lubricating eye oitment.

For both the cases, you might need to clean the eyes with cotton wool soaked in water. You should continue the medications given for fever.
