Child Has Fever, Headache, Vomiting, Clear Drainage From Ear, No Odor. No Pain. What Is Going On?

My son is 4 almost 5, had tubes when he was 1 they are both out but the left one is still in his canal. Monday he threw up (thinking flu ) Tuesday he had a fever and headache , today he still has a fever and headache but he also has a clear watery drainage in his right ear. It pretty much has no odor and is very light in color, maybe tinged yellowish. Said it doesn t hurt, what is going on?

Pediatrician, Neonatology 's  Response
Ear discharge could be due to infection / gap in tympanic membrane. Get his ear examined by ENT doctor. Rupture of ear drum (tympanic membrane) may be due to foreign body in ear / pricking ear with ear buds or pointed objects, blow over head or sudden pressure changes. Middle ear infections could be another reason.
Consult doctor immediately as the fever / headache / vomiting - are dangerous signs. However, the cause may be benign (like simple cough and cold - Flu) also.
