Hi,
Children are commonly affected by respiratory tract infection associated with fever, running nose and cough.
It is a common practice for any general practitioner to give an antibiotic along with fever medication, if the child presents with fever without the symptoms of causative infection. Fepanil takes care of fever and meftal P takes care of fever and body pain.
Some Dr, if the symptoms of causative infection are absent, they give medicines only for fever and wait for the findings of causative agents. But already you have waited for 4 days. Further waiting may lead to dehydration of the child.
So appropriate investigations and antibiotic to be given. Consult a paediatrician for further management. Fepanil drops is prescibed only for children less than 6 mths of age.
I wish for the speedy recovery of your son
Best wishes

General & Family Physician Dr. Achuo Ascensius's  Response
Hello,
thanks for using health care magic

Temperature of 101.3 is considered a fever and in children within the ages of 6 months to 6 years, convulsions are not uncommon with resulting brain damage.

Fepanil and mefthal-p do not cure the underlying cause of the fever rather there just reduce the fever.

You could take the child to the ER for at least a physical examination and tests such as full blood count, blood smear for malaria if you liv ein malaria endemic area. From the full blood count, it is possible to have an idea if the fever is caused by bacterial or virus.

Fepanil is paracetamol and it is highly recommended to reduce fevers ( does not cure the underlying problem) in children.

Hope this helps you.
