hello sir,i am a fresh graduate and had an infant patient of three months old,with chief complaint of loose stools shortly after being fed..he had fever also..po i hd prescribed metrogyl suspension 40mg 12 hourly,and paracetamol suspension for five days.. but later after two hours i realised whether i was correct in prescribing the medicine.. m very much scared about the side effects..please help me,and tell if it is harmful for the baby in any way? i had done a great blunder,and i am very much tensed

It is normal for babies to pass several motions a day due to increased gastrocolic reflex.
Also if infevtive it is mostly viral in nature and settles in few days.
Antibiotics are only required in case of infective diarrhea caused by bacteria.
There is no need to give metrogyl.
Give oral rehydration solution sip by sip after each loose stool,continue with breast feeding.
Give lactobaccilus sachet for 2 to 3 days and zinc for 14 days.
Continue with paracetamol if fever is above 100F.
Monitor for features of dehydration like decreased urine output/lethargy/refusal of feeds and in case you observe any then she close monitoring and intravenous fluid as per her hydration status.
