Child Has Repaired Tetraology Of Fallot. Dark Circles Under Eyes, Pale, Low Results Of CBC Test. Any Thoughts?

My 5 year old daughter has repaired Tetraology of Fallot, pulmonary stenosis and a PFO that was repaired via catheter last week. During the surgery they took a look at her pulomnary valve and said currently it is holding steady. She is on Digoxin and baby aspirin. Since surgery she just has not perked back up. She is very fatigued, plays actively for a few minutes then melts and needs to rest. She has very dark circles under her eyes and her coloring is pretty off. Her Cardiologist asked for a thyroid test and a CBC which we did yesterday. The results came back that her thyroid was fine but her MCH (27.8), MCV (80.5) and MPV (8.1) are all low...we faxed the results to the Cardiologist but it usually takes him awhile to get back to us. Any thoughts on what might be going on or if we should see a hematologist?

Hi Shannon,
You did not mention the hemoglobin and hematocrit in your CBC results.
For a child with cyanotic heart treated the Hb should be on the higher side.
A low Hb may be from iron deficiency which can be corrected with oral iron.
ALso she might have had some blood loss during the procedures(catheter).
Just check with your doctors whethervdigoxin is still needed!
