Dear Sir/ Madame
Thank you for writing. Let me start with explaining you the meaning of
amblyopia, it is when an eye stops seeing the details. Very common in children. It develops in childhood when the eye is not sending the correct image or sending a blurred image to the brain, this cause defective
nerve connections between the brain and the eye. There could be many causes to this, such as
nearsightedness,
farsightedness, or
cataracts. Family history also plays a role.
Treatment includes the correction of the cause, in this case what it seems to me was a
refractive error which has been corrected by the doctors, next they can use a patch to cover his good eye which would force the brain the recognize objects from the affected eye, this will help correct and develop the abnormal nerves going to the brain. You can expect you child to completely recover as children below five who are treated usually recover completely. Very few may have problems with depth perception, which is not a major problem.
It is good that you took your child to the hospital. if you have any other children, i would suggest that you get them checked at ages of 3-4 years.
If you have any more questions. feel free to contact me.
Take care of yourself and your child
