Child Have Itching In The Clitoris Which Is Spreading And Have Discharge Too. Is It Common For The Age?
My 12 year old daughter has been having an itchy clitoris for about a week and it seems to be spreading around the rest of the area. She says it hurts when she itches and she is having some discharge. I would bring her to a doctor but I think she s too young to be checked in that way and she s nervous about it. Is it common for her age and what should i do?
Hi! welcome to HCM! Pre-pubertal girls can develop inflammation in this area in just the same way as they can in other areas where the skin rubs against adjacent skin or where chaffing of moist skin can occur. The inflammation may be due to a fungal infection, which is common, but equally, can be secondarily infected with bacteria, in which case the treatment will be different. Allergic reactions to perfumed soaps and bubble baths can also play a part and these are certainly worth avoiding. Your daughter should have a gentle external examination of the vulva and vagina and if necessary a swab to test for micro-organisms can be done. In almost all of these cases avoidance of irritants, wearing cotton underwear and an antibiotic cream will usually put matters right. Hope this helps
