Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, we are toilet training our 4 year old. And he went poop in the toilet. I went to go and wipe him and there was a fair amount of blood on the toilet paper and some had dripped down onto his foot a little, thats what concerned me the most. I had already flushed the toilet before i wiped him so i couldnt go back and look to see if there was any blood in the toilet. It was good sized but not the largest he has ever done. Is this something i should be concerned about and maybe take him in to be checked at the ER, as it is a weekend?

Child Having Blood In Stool. Should I Concerned?
Hi, Thanks for writing to health care magic. Passing a large hard stool can some times result in rupture of the mucosa resulting in a fissure and then problems like bleeding. The other cause could be a polyp. A rectal polyp could be responsible for the bleed. So a complete physical examination including a perianal examination and if required rectoscopy or colonoscopy can confirm the diagnosis. Hope this helps. Take care.
