Child Having Constipation. Prescribed Miralax. Suggestions?
My 2 year old has recently been having stool issues. She became very constipated about a month ago. The doctor told us to give her Miralax and benefiber daily. She has a terrible time pooping and it seems to stick inside her and she cane get it out. when she does have a bowel movement , it comes out in little yellow mushy messes and about 6 times a day. We took her off the Miralax last week bc she was going so much. This is worrying me.
Hi,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic,
Your child seems to have functional constipation which is common in this age group.
If there is any fecal impaction it should be relived by rectal laxating suppositories or rectal enema.
Dietary fiber rich foods to be given daily like fruits, vegetables.
Give plenty of oral fluids.
Whenever child is having hard stool you can start giving oral laxative as prescribed by your Pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your query.

Constipation is a common problem in children,
It is mostly due to dietary factors, but other conditions like hypothyroidism, fissures needs to be ruled out.

Give honey with lemon juice in warm water first thing in morning.
You can give laxative for 4 to 5 weeks if problem persist.
