Child Having Lump In The Left Lower Rib Cage. Hurts Only When Touched. Happened After Falling While Playing Basketball. Serious?
My daughter is 9 years old and showed me tonight a little lump the size of a golf ball left lower rib cage side, it hurts when I press on the lump. She said yesterday she fell on the basketball when playing after school. It scares me so much that I want it to go to ER. But she doesn't complain of too much pain, only when pressing. What that could be? Maybe a bruise but has no blue or red any color at all. I know for sure that ill take her to see a doctor first thing in the morning, but I'm so worried that I won't be able to sleep tonight.
I am so sorry to hear about lump that. There is no point in rushing her to the ER now. It could represent a subcutaneous bleed that has caused blood to accumulate. Whatever the cause, because there is no life threatening continue that needs immediate medical attention, there is no point in rushing to the hospital. I will not eve walk in to see the doctor immediately unless she complains of some other thing in addition to this lump like pains, fever, difficulties breathing, etc. So in all, be relaxed and not too worried.
I hope you find this helpful. Thank you so much for using our services and please do feel free to ask for clarifications if need be. I wish you the best of health. Dr. Ditah, MD.
