Child Having Trouble In Bowel Movement. Advised To Take Miralax. Tried With Stool Softeners, Saline Enemas. What To Do?
I have an 8 year old son, well he will be 9 in January and he has always had trouble having a bowel movement for as long as I can remember. His pediatrician has told me to just give him miralax everyday and when he really needs it to give him an enema. But my child holds it in because it hurts so much when he goes. In the past he has produced bowel movements bigger than my arm. but now I have come to the situation that I have exhausted every resource. Miraalax everyday, stool softeners, saline enemas, mineral oil enemas, prescription laxatives and I have even just given him magnesium citrate to get him cleaned out for a test on monday and he is not going. I do not know what to do. I worried about him.
Hello. The problem with your child is complex. He has received all kinds of treatments possible without efficacy.Remind that besides the treatments received is important for your child's constipation practice physical exercising every day and eating diet rich in water, vegetables and fruits(except apple and banana). Also your pediatrician can request additional tests (for example abdominal radiography) to discard pathologies that may contribute to constipation.
I wish your child good health
