Hi ! You have not mentioned the age of your friend's daughter. Possibly she has had a upper respiratory infection along with associated ear infection which probably has been either not treated or partially treated initially. This kind of infection may travel by blood and spread to other parts of the body (hematogenous spread of infection) and in this case it is possibly the abdominal cavity layer (peritonitis) which has got affected leading to peritonism/peritonitis. This needs special care in a hospital and the baby is crying probably due to pain abdomen, ear and also associated fever. The treating doctor might have put her on intravenous antibiotics and intravenous fluids for the time being and the recovery may take some time.
Wishing her an early recovery. Take care.

Hello,
Your friend's daughter had urinary retention + Constipation. She is admitted to a children's hospital where she was catheterized and bladder was emptied. With this her complaints are taken over. An X-ray was taken.
Generally urinary retention is rare in children. She is having ear infection as well.
The commonest cause for retension of urine should be a Urinary Tract Infection. Ear and urinary tract may get affected by the same organism.
A urine culture and sensitivity may reveal any culprit organism is present along with an ENT consultatation.
Sometime a complete clinical examination + Lab investigations + USG abdomen
May be required to arrive at a diagnosis.
A neurological evaluation will also be necessary.
Here diagnosis is more important
Best wishes to you all
