Child Not Given Rota Virus Vaccine, Suffers From Stomach Infection Frequently. Due To Missed Vaccine?

Dear Doc, my daughter is of 2 years and 2 months age. She was not given Rota virus vaccine. She suffers from stomach infection very often and that last for 10-12 days every time. Is that due to the fact that we missed that vaccine? kindly advise if it can be given now or can be done something else so that my baby recovers fast. thanks.... S. Das

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi S.Das,
Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.
Rota virus is the most common cause of severe diarrhea in children below the age of 1 year.
Vaccination with Rota virus vaccine will protect the child from diarrhea caused by this virus, thus decrease the frequency of diarrheal episodes.
Rota vaccine should be given below the age of 32 weeks only.
At present it can not be given to your child as she is 2years now.
Maintain a good hand hygiene of the child to prevent frequent stomach infections.
Don't give her outside food, snacks, and bakery items.
Oral zinc supplementation in prescribed dose for 2 weeks will decrease the frequency and severity of diarrheal episodes.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
