Child Passing Smelly Watery Stools With No Other Symptoms. Medication For Above Symptom?
My Almost 6 month old is passing very smelly watery stools , he is not sick and in good spirits. He has recently tried food in small amounts ( about 6 spoonful once a day) but this has been for about 3 weeks and his stools prior to today were normal. He has also started creche in the past two weeks and there has been a notification of hand , foot and mouth disease in one child. He appears to have no symptoms other than the watery stools.

first of all he is losing water continuously so it is compulsory to compensate it by giving prolyte powder ( low osmolarity ORS). continue breast feeding any way. this problem might be due to digestion problems or it may be due to infection, at this age of teeth eruption some child passes watery diarrhoea quite commonly which might be physiological. but it is good to manage it any way norfloxacin 10mg/kg/dose bd can be given for 5 days or ampicillin 100mg/kg 6 hourly for 5 days. you can also add racdecadotril sachet to immediately stop water and electrolyte loss. nitrolin b syrup can be added if antibiotics are given for longer duration, even after these treatment your baby does not recover then please meet a paediatrician to rule out any food intolerance.
