Child Received Flu And Hepatitis Shot. Injection Site Is Swollen, Red And Itchy. Is It Normal?

my daughter is 6. she just received a flu shot and the second part of her hep a shot on Friday. The injection site looks like an insect bite and I can distinctly tell where each needle was inserted into her thigh. But my concern is the area around that is the the size of a baseball. Red swollen and warm to the touch. She claims it is itchy. what should I do? Is this normal?

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

The redness surrounding the site of infection is likely to be post injection inflammatory reaction, going for abscess formation.

I would suggest you the following which will help in resolution of inflammation and limit abscess formation

1. Hot water fomentation: 15- 20 minutes each time for 3-4 times a day
2. Anti-inflammatory drug like Ibuprofen will be beneficial
3. Antibiotic: Co-Amoxiclav

In case you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Wishing you happy and healthy life

Take Care
