Child S Throat And Uvula Seem Further Back Than Normal, Tongue Shows Flap Of Flesh Coloured Skin Like Epiglottis. Is The Same Seen And Why?
Just noticed tonight that my 17 month old daughter's throat looks different. She isn't sick or anything right now. The opening to her throat and her uvula seem further back than it should. Also right beyond her tongue is a strange looking flap of skin sticking up. It is flesh colored and looks like the epiglottis I've seen in pictures. Could I be seeing this and why??
hello
Do not worry if she is not having pain, fever ,difficulty in swallowing, difficulty in breathing, abnormal sound while breathing.
there are many structures in mouth and throat which can be seen .
in children the epiglottis is quite high in comparison to adults but it goes down as the larynx grows with age.so it can be seen easily in children.
that is why mouth and oropharynx and even some part of hypopharynx can be seen in children .
But in adults the big tongue comes in between and the larynx is also more down then children.
