Child Taking Monolinya For Cyst In Ovaries. Had Bleeding. Depressed With Mood Swings. Has Psoriasis On Scalp.
Yes I am a mother of a 12 yr old female who has been taking Mono-Linya 0.25/0.035 mg for about 3 months due to a cyst on ovaries which made her bleed for 10 days until taking this pill. I notice her mood swings and she seems somewhat depressed. My attention is now on the psoriasis she has developed on her scalp. I am worried that it may be a side effect of the medicine. Should I be. Should I see the gynecologist or dermatologist or both?
Mood swings, Depression and intermittent vaginal bleeding can be seen due to usage of hormonal pills. But its wise to discuss these with your gynecologist- as if depression is of a serious nature, the medicine has to be stopped.
Regarding the lesions on the scalp, first one has to be sure if its seborrheic dermatitis (dandruff) or scalp psoriasis. In some patients already existing Psoriatic lesions may get flared up after using hormonal pills. It`s better to consult a Dermatologist for this and get it treated in the right way.
To summarize you should see both the Gynecologist and the Dermatologist.
