Child With Back And Shoulder Pain And Pain While Breathing After A Fall. Blood In Urine. History Of UTIs. Need An Immediate Scan?
Hello, my daughter fell on her back and is now complaining of mid back pain, right shoulder pain and slight pain when breathing. I took her to the hospital to have an x ray done. Nothing was found. However, urine specemin showed very little traces of blood. She's known for having UTI's in the past. Could these be co occurring symptoms? The doc on call gave me little insight and ordered a ct scan immediately (which I backed out of). I wanted to have a second opinion before proceeding with this test.
Pains at multiple places mean that she could be having sprains or fractures. I hope the doctor took X rays of all the affected areas of the body. At the same time, the presence of just a little blood does not seem to point to injury to the kidney. Please continue to monitor her general condition. If she seems to be weakening or looking paler than before, it may indicate a significant bleeding internally.
Do get the urine tested a few more times over the next few days to confirm that there is no further bleeding or something like that.
It is your right to seek a second opinion, but I would reassure you if she is not in much pain, is sleeping and eating well, and has no further blood in her urine. At the same time, it can be overwhelming for the parents to see such symptoms. I understand your pain, and would like to suggest that you should make no delay in seeking a second opinion.
