Child With Fever. Has Staphylococcus Infection. Rashes On The Body After Taking Amoxicillin. Allergic Reaction?
Hi doctor, my son is 9 months old and had high fever (39) for 3 days. Paracetamol or Nurofen didn't work and only brought down 0.5 degree. We went to his doctor who ran some tests (urine, nose swap, blood test and throat swap). His doctor thought it was roseola and told us to expect rashes. But throat swap result came out today and he has Staphylococcus infection. He was given Amoxcicilin today and 12 hours after the first dose some rashes came out on his body. I would like to know if the rash is caused by roseola or it's the reaction to antibiotic. What should we do next? Thank you very much for your advice
Hi and thanks for the query, it would be very appropriate to get the child consulted by a physician. these rashes if not initially present and if they appeared only after administration of the antibiotic, it should be a reaction/allergy to this drug. Its important to get proper medical examination and prescription because other drugs with the same Peni group as Amoxicillin could produce similar effects and must actually be avoided. In case of Staphylococcus infection, may be a more specific drug to Staphylococcus could be more preferable. Consulting a physician is the best thing to do now. Thanks and best regards, Luchuo, MD.
