Child With Fever, Cold, Cough. Had Enlarged Adenoids. How To Overcome This Problem Without Surgery ?
My son age is 2 1/2 years and he is frequently suffering with fever, cold ,cough and disturbed sleep. He is keeping well for 20 days then suffering from above problems repeatedly. We also X-ray Nasopharynx done and the report shows that he has enlarged adenoids . Is there any possibility of overcoming this problem without surgery ? if surgery is mandatory which one is best i.e. laser surgery (or) regular conventional method ? also which is more safest procedure ? please advise.
Hello and welcome to health care magic. Thanks for your query.
Infection of the adenoid tissue is very common in childhood. At the age of about 6 or 7 years, the adenoid tissue begins to shrink; and by the age of about 15 years, this tissue disappears or reduces to a barely noticeable mass. In some children under 5 years of age, the adenoids swell up as a result of frequent upper respiratory tract infections, sinusitis
Acute adenoid infection can be treated conservatively by antibiotics, adequate hydration and bed rest.
But frequent adenoiditis can block the eustacian tube and leads to middle ear infection.
In such cases its advised to go for surgical management i.e adenoidectomy.
.
Wish you all the best
