Child With Severe Mood Swings And Constipation. Tested Positive For Thyroid. Suggestion?

hello doctor my daughter is 7 years old,,,she was having some problems related to appetite ,, constipation ,,frequent mood swing ,,so i got her ft3,ft4 & tsh checked,,the results are4.01,1.25nd 9.6,,is she having thyroid,,as i am having thyroid for the last 15 years,,iam really worried please guide me,,even my 4 years son has increased level of tsh-7.62with ft3-3.7& ft4- 1.16....

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

The TSH level is certainly high but the free T3 and T4 levels are within normal limits. I would like to follow up the child at regular intervals to ensure that the T3 and T4 levels are maintained. In case they fall then your daughter shall be labelled as hypothyroid.

As regards constipation kindly ensure that you daughter increases fruits, vegetables, salad, prunes, figs, etc. in her diet and also increase the intake of liquids. You may like to see the article on constipation at http://vardaan.net/hl-chfd.php for more information.
