Child With Temperature, Tests Reveal EColi Bladder Infection. Is Temperature The Evidence Of Kidney Infection ?
An 11 mo old boy was taken to the ER and found to have a temp of 105. Tests revealed an EColi ibladder infection. Hospital says no kidney reflux involvement based on ultrasound and . Antibiotics were given. No further temps or infections followed. Follow up with pediatric urologist-parent were told that the ultrasound wasn;t very clear and the 105 temp was conclusive evidence of kidney involvement and the boy was placed on low dose antibiotics even though no current issue. Parents also advised to circumcise the boy. The question is-was the temp of 105 the conclusive evidence of kidney involvement?
so thats true that urinary tract infections tend to run high grade. here in this case. as we look into the matter generally yes its true that kidney infection(upper tract) generally runs a higher temp asd compared to lower tract but again these are not water tight compartments. also in that age group UTIs are vaery crucial(urniary tract infection.) if reflux is present of infected urine it can affect the kidneys.so a good follow up and depending upon the severity and examination a prophylactic medication if prescribed by a doctor holds quite justified. also related to circumcision. a phimosis is a cause for recurrent urniary infections so hence adviced. but gain theres an identity called physiklogical phimosis which do resolve it self. you have not mentioned about the recurrent rate?
