Child With Whitish Bump On Lip And Swelling. Given Benadryl For Swelling. Is It A Seasonal Allergy?

My 11 year old son, has a patch of whitish small bumps on his upper lip and it is swollen. He was given Mupirocin ointment and Zovirax ointment. He woke up this morning and it is swollen even more, I went ahead and gave him some benedryl to reduce swelling because he does have a history of seasonal allergies as well. Help?!!

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.
Some body prescribed mupirocin ointment. If it is allergy why was that prescribed.
Are there any pustules associated with this.

Skin allergy can present with swelling of lip.
So if that is the case the self medication you started may give some results.

But some times self medication may do harm.
So request you to reconsider self medication.

Hope this helps
Take care.
