Children. Strange Sores On Skin. Diagnosed Hand And Foot Syndrome Disease Due To Viral Infection. Is Giving Bath Safe?
Dear Doctor,
Recently my kids have developed strange sores on their skin, I was fearing that this might be chicken pox but on consultation with doctor, she confirmed that this is some kind of hand and foot syndrome disease caused by viral infection. My question is if it is safe to give bath to kids during this syndrome disease.
In any skin lesions including Hand Foot mouth syndrome bathing should not be with held because by giving a wash to the child secondary infection with bacteria can be avoided.
Hence give a bath with any baby soap or if you are worried about the skin lesion then you add antiseptic solutions like Dettol to the water for bathing.
I understand your concern. I am glad that you visited with your dermatologist regarding your children's condition. I am sure the dermatologist also gave you advise regarding how to handle the situation. However, the viral condition that your children have does not prevent you from giving bath to kids and it is safe to do so. I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!
