radiologist report of the mri of the right humerus of an 8 yr old boy, done after 2 weeks of fracture: clinical profile- bone cyst with pathological fracture it was performed using T1 and T2 weighted sequences in multiple planes. there is an oval T1w and T2w hyperintense lesion in the middle third of the humerus, measures 1.3 x 1.27cm adjacent oblique fracture seen minmal callus and perosteal rection seen soft tissue swelling noted altered signals seen in the proximal and the distal thirds of the humerus evidence of joint effusion seen in the elbow joint long segment vascular dilatation and unusual signals are seen in the posteromedial soft tissue abnormality corresponds to the deep cephalic vein Question: Is this a medical emergency and what should be done. A bone cyst giving rise to pathological fracture and joint effusion in the elbow should be taken seriously and investigated. The doctor shall be doing a biopsy of the cyst and thereafter plan the further course of action. Do take it seriously and treat it as an emergency.
