Chronic Runny Nose. Working As Beekeeper, So Cant Use Tissue All The Time. Advice?

Hi, I have a chronic runny nose (thin,watery--not thick) year round. It is long term and I suspect it is from living in a small apartment with a parrot and a macaw. I can t take antihistamines because they make me extremely jittery. Normally I deal with the problem by ALWAYS having tissue with me to control the running. The problem is this: I m a beekeeper and when I m working the hives (which can be several hours at a time) I cannot use tissue through the bee veil. It s horribly embarrassing when other people are around. Any advice/help would be much appreciated!!

hello user
There are newer antihistaminics drugs available in market which have less side effects and having good compliance as they are taken once in a day.
There are also a group of drugs called mast cell stabilizers which prevent a start up of these allergic episodes.

The most important thing to avoid is the allergens which are causing the allergic response which present as running nose.

hope my info helped you

Hi,
Thanks for contacting HCM
You have a a chronic runny nose (thin,watery--not thick) year round.living in a small apartment with a parrot and a macaw.
These all finding suggestive of allergic rhinitis. best things you can do is to avoid the things(a parrot and a macaw) that cause your allergies. Better drug is ALLEGRA M once a day.

Thanks

ENT Specialist Dr. Vaishali Mehta's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for your query. Well, Using a tissue is not the solution to the problem. What you are suffering from is allergic rhinitis. Prevention is better than cure, works best for allergies, if you can identify the allergen. Avoiding/ Identifying the allergen could be difficult most times. The treatment which works is newer non sedating antihistamines which are virtually free of all side effects. Other than that, an intranasal steroid spray prescribed by your doctor will be of benefit. Hope this helps answer some of your queries.

Take care
