Constant Pain In Hands. Have Joint Deformity, X-ray Showed Erosion In Hands And Wrists. Serious?
I have almost constant pain in my hands and am waiting for my referral as the rheumatologist is on vacation. I have some joint deformity and my doc says the ex rays show erosion in my hands and wrists. She said she will leave the diagnosis up to the rheumatologist but kept referring to RA. The blood work was not back at the time of my visit with her. How bad off am I if this is what is going on and I haven't seen anyone yet? Been about a month now
Presence of erosions as well as deformities of fingers is very typical of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The commonest deformity of fingers is SWAN NECK DEFORMITY or a BOUTENNIERE DEFORMITY.
The treatment of RA includes a multifaceted regimen involving * Medications - DMARD's (disease modifying antirheumatic drugs) * Exercise & Rest * Use of corrective splints for joint deformities * Physiotherapy * Dietary intake of omega 3 fatty acids which decreases the inflammation
Hope this information is helpful. Good day
