Cough And Clearing Throat For Years, Pre Op Testing For Hip Replacement. Chest Xray Says Bilateral Pleural Effusions.
My 86 yr old mother was having pre-op testing for a hip replacement. It was postponed because the chest xray indicated Small bilateral pleural effusions. Bibasilar infiltrates. She has had a cough and clearing of the throat for years. I asked her to check it out but she said her dr. said it was relfux. Is this related?
Hi, Reflux may cause chronic cough but not the pleural effusion.Bilateral pleural effusion must be evaluated for possible cardiac, liver and kidney diseases. So get an ECG, liver function test and renal function test done. Attributing this effusion to acid reflux is not fair in this case....
Best wishes
