Cough And Perspiration During Nights When Exposed To Cold, Have Green Phlegm. Reason And Cure?
I cough and perspire mostly at nights and when I am exposed to cold air such as sitting in front of the air-cond. Usually I am given Diphenydramine Hydrochloride Bp Syrup. However, today the doctor gave me Prozine Syrup. This is a first time for me. Also she did not prescribe any antibiotics . I have phlegm (light greenish color early in the morning) and in the afternoons kinda of whitish. I showed her my allergic card which I carry with me and she said oh you don t need antibiotics. Should I seek a second opinion?
Hi and my regards, After going through your query, it seems that you are having an allergy since you get cold and some chest congestion when exposed to cold air. Your doctor was right when she gave you the anti allergic medication. Considering that you are having greenish phlegm, I would prefer an anti biotic like azithromycin 500 mg once daily before meals for three days along with the rest of the medicines, especially if you are also having fever and throat pain. If fever is absent you may take only the anti allergics. Your problem can also be prevented if you take care not to sit in the cold air or get wet in the rains. Do not have cold or sour foods for a few days. Have warm water gargles and home remedies like a spoonful of ginger juice and honey. You make require consultation with an allergy specialist in your area if the cold and cough increase in frequency. I hope you get well soon. Regards.
Your doctor appear to be quite genuine in prescribing the drug for you. Antibiotics to only added only when it is indicated.
Here it appears to be that you are suffering with allergic bronchitis by your symptoms.
If the sputum persists for longer time and some features of infection become visible like fever, breathing difficulty, chest pain etc then one should go for some investigations like CBC, ESR, CXR and sputum culture and then only some relevant antibiotic to be added according to culture report.
Hope the query is answered and useful.
Thanks.
