Cough, Sore Throat And Ears, Blocked Sinus. Doxycycline Taken. Recommendations?

I have felt unwell for about 8 days - cough, sore throat and sore ears, and blocked sinus. I am a mother of two children, 11 year old boy - also who has had a dry cough for 8 days and is tired and an 8 year old girl with eczema and positive staph cultured recently from a nasal swab. She is otherwise very well and eczema has now cleared with ointments and staph with nasal ointment. My symptoms got worse in the weekend and I felt full of a sinus infection, very tired so I self medicated with a dose of oral doxycyline 100mg , then again one dose in the morning. I feel so much better tonight but only have 2 more tablets left. Is that enough ? I know it is not ideal to self medicate but I have been prescribed this once before for a similar infection and it worked well, also with a steroid nasal spray. Interested in your thoughts.

Hi and thanks for the query,
Do not self medicate.. ever.
You have come down with an acute respiratory tract infection.
Its been 8 days so you definitely need to see a doctor.
You will require a course of appropriate antibiotic, anti inflammatory, decongestant nose drops and some cough medication.
Till then follow some general measures.
1) General rest.
2) Warm salt water gargling.
3) Plenty of fluids- 4 litres a day.
4) Voice rest.
5) Steam inhalation.
6) Avoid airconditioning, fan and cold foods.
