Could Flagyl For Bacterial Infection Cause Foul Odor With Abdominal Cramps?
Was prescibed Metro(Flagyl) for bacterial infection. The doctor never Gyn work up,we discussed mysymptoms.Foul smell which is tatally abnormal. Not sexually active within pass 2yrs.60 yrs of age.I am on my 5 days of taking it ywice daily, still have the odor(not as intense)now i am having abdomen cramps please tell me is this the side effects from the medication or is something else going on??
Hello, The cramping can definitely be from the metronidazole. It often causes stomach cramping. The odor is probably from the bacterial vaginosis and should resolve within several days after completing the antibiotics. If the odor persists you need to see your doctor again for pelvic exam and testing to determine the cause. If you did not complete the course of flagyl you can call your doctor and ask for a vaginal gel to treat the bacterial vaginosis since it will have less side effects Regards, Dr. Robinson
