Could Wellbutrin XL 150mg And Buspar 40mg Be Causing Elevated Levels Of Depression?

My husband is taking 150mg of Wellbutrin XL and 40mg of Buspar and his depression seems to have escalated. He has been on Wellbutrin XL for about a month and Buspar for the past 15 years. He use to take 30 mg of Buspar but his doctor just upped the dosage to 40. Is this the reason for the escalation? He was diagnosed with MDD about a month ago by a doctor and says he s been depressed for the past year and a half.

Hello,

Welbutrin and Buspar are the antidepressant/antianxiety medication used in the treatment of MDD. So, these medications are not the cause of your husband's worsening depression. Antidepressants typically take 4 to 6 weeks to show its effects. However, since he has been on Welbutrin for almost a month now and noticing worsening symptoms, I would recommend increasing the dose of Welbutrin to 300 mg or switching to another antidepressant like Effexor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lekshmi Rita Venugopal
