Could A Black Blob In The Bottom Of Top Molar Indicate A Cavity?
How long does it take a cavity to form? I just noticed a black blob in the bottom of one of my top molars. I was at the dentist three weeks ago and the oral surgeon 1 week ago and neither mentioned anything. It is possible it is a filling that has turned black? It's been at least 10 years since I had any fillings.
Understanding your concern. As per your query black blob in the bottom of top molar could be due to infection in the tooth. When the infection reaches deep till mid of tooth near pulp chamber there is inflammation of nerves and blood vessels which leads to pulp degradation and blackening of tooth. I would suggest you to visit a dentist and get it examined. Go for IOPA(X-RAY) of infected tooth and if cavity has reached till pulp level go for root canal treatment. till then if there is pain take Ibuprofen and Diclofenac combination. Maintain oral hygiene. Do brushing and flossing daily. Chances of fillings turning black are rare until and unless there is reinfection. If that is an amalgam filling that will be black since starting. So I would suggest you to go for proper examination and start treatment accordingly
Hope your concern has been resolved.
