Could Abdominal Cramps During Pregnancy Be Due To Dilatation?

Hi I am 37+3 weeks pregnant I had a membrane sweep done at 11:45am uk time on Tuesday.. Had brown mucus discharge by 6pm that evening that got heavier but no contractions just a few cramps then wed around 5pm started having regular contractions went hospital but cervix was still only 2cm dilated so sent home.. This evening (Thursday) 48hrs after sweep ive had pink watery discharge on my pad and when I wipe few period type cramps and pressure before hand. Dose this mean I will labour soon or that I am dilating further?x

Hello,

As the labor advances, you will have the following:
1) Increased frequency of contractions with decreased gap between successive contractions.
2) Increased pain with each contraction.
3) Dilatation of cervical opening up to 10 cm.
4) Changes in the birth canal.

So, your cramps and discharge indicate you are having labor pains with progressive dilatation of cervix. You may go to the hospital now.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
