Could Bloated Stomach Have Been Caused By Overeating And Absence Of Exercise?

I have noticed that my stomach is sticking out over the last month or so. Also I was a regular aerobic exerciser and walked frequently in daily life up until last november when my routine changed. I have put on 15 pounds since then. My stomach isn t flabby, but more like bloated. I am 50 years old. I smoke and drink beer. My father died 4 months ago and I have been anxious as well. I have a lot of sinus congestion also which is chronic. Is it just overeating and exercise absent from my routine?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Bloating can be due to different causes, : (1)it may be related to the foods that you are using eg if gas producing such as carbonated drinks, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, beans

(2)GERD
(3)constipation
(4)lactose intolerance
(5)food intolerance
(6)side effect of medication

Lack of exercise would cause weight gain but would not normally cause bloating.

I hope this helps
