Could Breakouts Of Boils On Body Be Due To History Of Smoke Damage In The House?

Hi. My apt. Suffered smoke damage back in November. I cleaned the place up the best I could and it is still livable. In February I suffered from a boil out break out of no where. 3 on my upper left leg. One near my under arm. Months has passed and I am now experiencing 2 more. One on my thigh again and one on my back side. I have a cat that tends to find areas where there s still smoke ex. The ceiling. And tracks it thru the house. Is there any connection with smoke from fire causing boils? I m clueless.

Hello,

Most boils are caused by a bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus, commonly found on the skin and inside the nose. A bump forms as pus collects under the skin. Boils sometimes develop at sites where the skin has been broken by a small injury or an insect bite, which gives the bacteria easy entry. It might not be the smoke you should worry about but the cat itself is a good source of infection.

It's not always possible to prevent boils, especially if a person has a weakened immune system. You should wash your hands regularly with mild soap. Or use an alcohol-based hand rub often. Careful hand-washing is your best defence against germs. Keep wounds covered. Keep cuts and abrasions clean and covered with sterile, dry bandages until they heal. Avoid sharing personal items. Don't share towels, sheets, razors, clothing, athletic equipment, and other personal items.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
