Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Chest Discomfort Be Related To The Infection Of Helicobacter Virus?
I have just been told blood tests I had yesterday came back positive for Helicobacter virus. I went to the doctors for two reasons: I had some ongoing chest discomfort and needed to get my cholesterol levels checked. He did say the chest discomfort maybe related to a digestive problems. I had never heard of such a virus and wonder how I could get it. I have just returned from 7 weeks travelling around Europe (but had the chest discomfort prior to going)
Yes, based on the history and the lab test results you seem to be suffering from Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection.
It is not a virus but a bacteria the infection of which occurs during childhood and invariably results in stomach ulcer and its other complications.
I suggest you to take an stomach acid suppressant along with a combination of clarithromycin with either amoxicillin or metronidazole (if allergic to amoxicillin) for at least 10 to 14 days.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
