Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Chronic Paint Inhalation Could Be A Cause To Death?
My father-in-law passed away in 2001 and his autopsy report says he died of hypertensive cardiomyopathy, although my mother-in-law says he never had high blood pressure. My husband wonders if chronic paint inhalation could have caused it as he was a painting contractor?
While some paints have toxins that are deleterious to health, a routine autopsy often involves toxicology study as well. Paints have been getting safer over past several decades. In my opinion, your father-in-law could have had hypertension for several years. A person may have hypertension for years and yet have no complaints at all. It is usually detected during a visit to a doctor for some other complaint. I hope this answers your question.
