Could Crawling Sensation In Head And Goose Bumps Be Due To Bipolar Medication?

Hi there, i am on medication to manage my bipolar disorder. I keep getting a strange sensation, like creepy crawlys in my head, accompanied by goose bumps throughout my body. I was wondering if this has anything to do with too much seratonin in my brain caused by the various phsyciatric meds that i take. Thanks

Hi,

I am not sure which exact medications you are on at present. The medications commonly used for Bipolar disorder are not known to cause creepy crawlys or goose bump sensations.

Also, antidepressants such as SSRIs (eg: fluoxetine) are not usually prescribed to those with Bipolar disorder.

These are the ones that increase serotonin in your brain. In those patients where a SSRI is used, a mood stabilizer medication is also added.

None of the mood stabilizer medications have been reported to cause these symptoms. If I was your treating physician, I would go through all the medications you are currently on to achieve more clarity whether this is a medication side effect.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Sanjana Nagraj
