Could Diabetes Cause Slurring In Speech And Irritation?
My father is 74 and has type 2 diabetes. He wakes very early (4-5am) but doesn t feel hungry until around 10 when he eats. His lunch is typically at around 12-1 and his dinner is at around 6. I have noticed in recent weeks that he is teetering and slurring his speech quite consistently in the early afternoon between 4-5.....it concerns me that his eating schedule is the cause. He s on regular meds and sees his endocrinologist regularly but I am doubtful that he is truthful about how he is feeling and wonder if he notices the difference as much as I do. He is also more irritable than he used to be. Please advise on possible reasons and or actions to help resolve this
Hello, A slurring and stuttering occuring daily at around 4-5in the evening could be due to hypoglycemia. I would advise you to get his blood sugar levels monitored at that time. If it is hypoglycemia, then his medications have to be regularised accordingly. If it is not hypoglycemia, then a neurological consultation would be a proper idea. Thanks
