Could Drowsiness And Lethargy Be The Side Effects Of Efexxor?

I am on efexxor and after reading this think I perhaps I should take it at night as I believe that it is making me sleepy and generally slow ( although I get less done I do tend to not get uptight out about it much - just carry on). Tended previously to be manic and generally energenic and optimistic in summer and most effected negatively after the fall time change. I do drink alcohol daily but generally not more than a glass or two of wine - sometimes more on weekends - but have always had a high tolerance to alcohol. I am steadily taking the medication but am considering a change as I am not liking the drowsiness and general lethargy I am experiencing. Any thoughts.

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Effexor (Venlafaxine) can cause CNS side effects like somnolence, asthenia; abnormal thinking; depersonalization etc.

Patient taking Venlafaxine is to avoid intake of alcoholic beverages and other CNS depressants.

Some other drug of this Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRI) group can be substituted.

Your psychiatrist will be the best judge.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
