Could Dryness, Scalyness, Eczema Like Patches Be Related To Steven-johnsons Syndrome?

MY 18 MONTH OLD SON HAD STEPHEN JOHNSONS SYNDROME FROM IBUPROPHEN IN FEBRUARY OF 2013. HE HAS SINCE HAD MANY DRY, SCALY, ECZEMA LIKE PATCHES ALL OVER HIS BODY. THE SYNDROME ONLY AFFECTED HIS FACE. I HAVE BEEN USING A CREAM THAT MY PEDIATRICIAN PRESCRIBED THAT IS NON-STEROIDIAL. ARE THESE TWO ISSUES RELATED?? THANKS!!

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
Dry scaly patches sound more like atopic dermatitis. It is not at all steven johnson syndrome. Just use a good moisturiser like cetaphil restoraderm and apply a mild steroid like hydrocortisone for few days to see if it responds. If the lesions remain as such, please meet a dermatologist nearby.
Take care
