Could Ear Piercing Cause Recurring Hives And Fever In A Child?
My 6year old broke out in hives from her ears down her trunk and arms (not to her legs yet). I took her to instacare to make sure that there was no danger to her airway. I am giving her Benedryl per the Dr. s orders and it clears the hives temporarily, but they come back when the next dose is due. she also has a low fever, 100.3. I can t figure out what brought them on, but she got her ears pierced 8 days ago will surgical steel posts, could this be the cause, and do I need to take the earrings out?
I don't think the hives are because of the ear pin as it happened after 8 days. If it was within few hours or even up to 1 or 2 days, of ear piercing, I would have thought of an allergic reaction. The hives appeared ,seem to be due to some other allergen. I would advise you to try to identify the allergen and keep your daughter away from it.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Anoop Kumar, General & Family Physician
