Could Extended Use Of Clonazepam Cause Liver Problems?

I have been on clonazepam (1m) daily for sometime now. I recently (last 6monts) been diag with early stages of Parkinsons. I am talking Ropinrole (12 mg) ER daily and my liver GGT levels are high (180+) along with elevated AST and ALT levels. These elevated Liver GGT counts started well before I started takng the ropinirole. Could the extended use of clonazepam be causing this issue with my liver?? Charlie

Hello,

Clonazepam is a safe drug and does not cause any liver dysfunction. The liver enzymes are slightly elevated and it can not be attributed to clonazepam.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
