Could Eyesight Loss Or Speech Function Loss Be Due To Herpes Encephalitis?
I have been diagnosed with HSV1 & HSV2 and I am taking Valtrex everyday. This morning I woke up and was having some eye problems. I got out of bed when the eye sight came back and then all of a sudden, I lost speech funtions. I could still talk a few words, but I could not make out sentences. Could this be Herpes Encephalitis or a side effect of the Valtrex?

Yes if a person develops acute encephalitisVisual field loss (14%) and dysphasia (76%) is seen. Usually side effects of valcyclovir include headache, nausea, and vomiting only but in rare cases such speech and visual disturbances have been reported. I suggest you must immediately get yourself evaluated from a neurologist for further work-up.
