Could Food Consumed Before Fasting Blood Glucose Test Show False Positive Results?

I recently was told I have diabetes. The VA has been my health provider for years. I am 56, good health, no symptoms. When I did my fasting test, I forgot, and ate a small bran muffin, and coffee with cream and sugar, Could this cause a false positive? I am getting rechecked tomorrow.

Hi,

Yes, these things you ate can cause false-positive results. When we say fasting we mean total fasting for at least 8 hours not even water intake.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Salah Saad Shoman, Internal Medicine Specialist
