Could Hair Fall In A Circular Pattern Be Due To Elevated Thyroid Levels?
within the last two months my hair has fallen out in a circular pattern in one shot at the back of my head and today after having blood work done the doctor called and advised that i have high count of thyroid. could this be the reason that my hair has fallen out in a circular pattern - the sign of a quarter like iwhat treatment should i follow
Hi. I've gone through your query and I can understand your anxiety.
Hair loss might be due to thyroid disease or alopecia areata or ringworm infection of scalp. As per your history its due to thyroid disorder (at the same time other causes should be worked out).
Hair loss due to thyroid disease can occur as diffuse, involving entire scalp rather than discrete areas or with particular pattern & hair appears uniformly sparse.
I advice you to, - Take oral medications for thyroid disorder which will help in regrowth of hair (takes several months)
- Take iron & multivitamin supplements to treat underlying nutritional deficiencies if any
- Have controlled iodine intake
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care.
Regards, Dr. Yogapriya V, General and family physician.
