Could Having Cylindrical Number In A Toddler Without Any Symptoms Be Right Diagnosis?
My daughter is 3 years old and was checked by an eye specialist who said she has cylindrical number and has to wear glasses all the time. My daughter never complained of any eyes pain, nothing unusual like excess dry or watering eyes and has normal vision identifying objects at a distance. What is the diagnosis considering she is only 3 years and should I get further evaluation to confirm?? Thanks.
The early showing up of the cylindrical number in a toddler without any symptoms of the eye discharge or pain indicates congenital issue of retina, lens or other structures; metabolic disorders of some types. One can have the same as early as even 2-3 months as well, but by that time, it is not diagnosed due to very small age.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
