My temp was 104° yesterday. (Healthy age 66 female) NP said it was ear infection... ? No earache. She gave a shot, prescription, take Tylenol & Advil rotating every 6 hours. 24 hours later fever is w/ i normal range. Have nausea, chest discomfort and dizziness. Should I go to ER or just continue meds? Could high temp affect the heart? eart?
Dear- thanks for using our service and will give you my medical advise.First of all, ear infection should give you symptoms as ear pain, fullness sensation, headache or dizziness. You are describing chest disconfort and nausea which can be from an upper respiratory infection. You should give 48-72hrs range for the antibiotics to work. High temperature does not affect the heart unless you have sepsis, which is an infection in the blood. That can create increased in the heart rate and cardiogenic shock. However, that is not your case because you will feel very sick . I will suggest to continue with antibiotic and tylenol for fever and see if improves in 72 hr. If no improvement,go to ER. I hope that my advise has been helpful Dr.Sara
