Could Hormonal Changes At The Age Of 52 Cause Dry, Irritated And Inflammed Eyes?

Hello, I am a 52 year old? My eyes are very dry irritated and have inflammation. My menstrual cycle has not been as regular as before and my eyes seem to be painful and dry when I am in my period. Do hormonal changes affect this? Should I be treating my inflammation with corticosteroids or just wait for my hormones to get back to normal? Thank-you .catherine

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

There are drops that you can use for dry eyes. These are lubricant eye drops, you can speak to your local pharmacist or doctor, it would be best to treat them.

It is possible that the irregular period may mean that you are in the premenopausal stage of your life.
This is the time period before the onset of menopause. It can vary from weeks to months to years

I hope this helps
